“Delivering Happiness” Day 1

June 7, 2010

This week, it’s time to do something a bit different for those of us in the Laboratory Informatics industry. I’m going to blog about “Delivering Happiness.” Let me explain what I’m doing in this 5-day blog event.

As part of the book release events, I got the opportunity to get a free, advance copy of Tony Hsieh’s (CEO of Zappo’s) book “Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose.” It is in exchange of a book review. For those of you who know me well, you probably have noticed I somewhat regularly volunteer to take advance copies of books in exchange for a book review. I’m an avid reader and I enjoy writing reviews to share with others.

For receiving this book, I’m supposed to also tell you that I understand the FTC guidelines regarding endorsements. However, I actually don’t. It’s just a free book and I’m reviewing it. No-one has asked me to give a good review and that’s another issue I’m supposed to mention.

Why I’m Posting it to “Out on a LIMS™”

In our industry, we don’t tend to discuss customer service. The idea that we could provide any particular level of customer service is a topic we rarely discuss, but the idea that we could “deliver happiness” seems like a stretch for us. Thus, the time has come for some postings on customer service in our industry.

In exchange for the book, the review is supposed to be posted to my blog during this week of June 7th, 2010. But I felt this topic important-enough to warrant an entire (business) week of postings. So, this is the beginning. Tomorrow, I will post the review of the book, as well as some important links regarding the book.
