End of Time at U of M – Regrets? (The LIMS)

In all these posts about the end of my job, some of you might be surprised that I’m only now writing about the LIMS. Me, too. U of M runs the LVS Biobanking solution which I knew before I had an inkling I would work there so I guarantee I’m not passing along any secrets, here. It was easy enough to see from reading people’s LinkedIn profiles so they’re not keeping it a secret.

A Bizarre New Trend

Just in the past two weeks, I’ve had conversations with people in our industry where the very same topic came up and using the almost the same verbiage. I’ve never had quite this thing happen and am convinced these people don’t know each other. It’s so creepy and weird that I had to share this.

Update on Resourcing and Whether There’s a Shortage

In previous posts, “Where Have All the SampleManager Resources Gone?” and “Ditto For the LabWare LIMS/ELN,” I talked about the fact that there seems to be quite a few people asking for Thermo Fisher Scientific and for LabWare resources but seemingly not finding them when there are actually resources available in the market. In the past few weeks I made another update post “Update on Resourcing and Whether There’s a Shortage.” Since then, I have spoken with yet more people getting their viewpoints on this and will share more thoughts on it.

Update on Resourcing and Whether There’s a Shortage

In previous posts, Where Have All the SampleManager Resources Gone? and Ditto For the LabWare LIMS/ELN, I talked about the fact that there seems to be quite a few people asking for Thermo Fisher Scientific and for LabWare resources but seemingly not finding them when there are actually resources available in the market. Today, I make my update.

System Purchase and Implementation Issues

When selecting a LIMS, ELN or LES, potential customers look for functionality that matches their needs. Additionally, most companies will have some other criteria, such as the operating system or database they prefer to use. But when systems offer basically the same features and run on the same platforms, there are other technical considerations to review before purchasing one.

No LIMS/ELN/LES in Sight

One effort I’m just finishing is to replace my main office machine and now have a situation I haven’t had in many years – I don’t have a single LIMS, ELN or LES installed on it. It’s a weird, weird, weird feeling!

Ditto for the LabWare LIMS / ELN

In my last post, Where Have All the SampleManager Resources Gone?, I talked about the fact that there seems to be quite a few people asking for Thermo Fisher Scientific resources but seemingly not finding them when there are actually resources available in the market. Today, I would say, “Ditto for the LabWare LIMS / ELN.”

Where Have All the SampleManager Resources Gone?

More and more frequently, I hear people say to me, “I wish I could find SampleManager people.” I work with Thermo Fisher’s SampleManager LIMS / LES and would appreciate a new customer but these rumblings never turn into a new customer for me. So, “What’s going on?,” you might wonder?

Still Not “Knowing” New Systems

In my recent post The Lack of the Ultimate System I was talking about my frustration that I do not have just one really great system option that I can give to customers who just need some basic system, where the problem is that, to actually “know” system is to implement it.
