As I often do, I was reading my blog statistics and saw what is the title of this blog posting as a search that led to my blog. As such, I started thinking about the “hot topics” in laboratory informatics. Here are three that I can think of off the top of my head:
We continue to watch the LIMS and ELN markets to see how much they will merge. As LIMS continue to take over ELN capabilities and ELNs take over more LIMS capabilities, we will continue to wonder what all this software will look like in the near future and how much more it will merge. Thus, it poses a quandary for those people looking to buy systems to determine how best to purchase something, right now, that will hold a strong solution for the near future.
Not that we’ve said much of real interest about the iPad, but we continue to talk endlessly about it and it qualifies as a “hot topic.” Most of our talk currently revolves around how “cool” it is but as people get their hands on it more, we will hopefully see more of substance.
It’s already time to start talking about and planning for the Fall Conferences and we’re already seeing more information and solicitation for them coming into our view.
