I've Been Liked So Much I'm Now Popular

The entire concept of "liking" things seems odd in a business situation; yet, it seems to work fine when we want to indicate a preference for a particularly good discussion or post in our on-line world, even in business.

Still, I feel a little strange having people "like" me or my comments. It just feels kind of strange, as if we haven't left school and are waiting around for people to "like" us. Yet, I suppose I've gotten enough attention and "like"s that I'm now "popular." I can prove it with this notice for the 9th Annual IMACS (International Meeting on Automated Compliance Systems):

Right there in black-and-white, it lets me know that I'm now a "popular LIMS blogger!" Notice that there is an exclamation mark on it, too, so I guess that's really something, then.

I'm commenting on this not to be egocentric but out of something more akin to over-analysis. On a related note, I've been on projects where team members have mentioned it's great to have one of the "important industry people like you, Gloria" on the project or asked me who the "important industry people" are. In either case, I'm always dumbfounded. I don't know what the criteria are to be "important" or "liked" or "popular" but if it means I will get more business then I can "like" it, too. Other than that, am still left wondering if this means anything. At the least, maybe it just means we'll all start a manic effort to "friend" each other.

On a side note, here is a comment on my blog statistics:

Mine are somewhere in-between these two numbers. Now that I'm so "popular" I hope to get closer to the larger of the two numbers. ;-)
